Find your own pace

A small game. A satisfying connection.

See a character.
Find its sound.

That moment when a character stops looking unfamiliar? Make a little more room for it. Your first matches start with kana — the characters that represent Japanese sounds.

A character. Its sound. One small thing that sticks.

  1. Draw a connection.

Drag from a Japanese character to its sound along a clear, straight path. Make a match and the pair clears from the board.

  2. A little stuck? That’s part of it.

A short tutorial gets you going. Hints help when you need them. There’s room to try, get it wrong, and try again.

  3. Pick it up. Put it down. Come back.

Your board and progress stay on your phone. Play offline and resume where you left off, whenever a spare moment appears.

Tanji sits with a welcoming smile, one paw outstretched and a green leaf on his head.
こんにちは · Hello there.

Meet your practice buddy

Good company.
One more match.

That’s Tanji. Part Tanuki, part Kanji, and very much in your corner. He’s there for the first connection, the second attempt, and the little victories in between.

Tanuki + Kanji = Tanji.
